Splendor in the Canyon

This week I'll share some photos of our visit to

the Grand Canyon's South Rim, the day after

Christmas.  We'd had snow on Cristmas Day so

there was a lovely dusting on the upper ridges.

The low clouds creating some drama.

These, two, were clearly overcome:

I think you have titled it perfectly, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Ray!
Two great shots, Ell'. smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks, Frank!
I hope that was not the effect of carbon monoxide Frank.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I hope not too! We'd better go back and see if they're still there! smile
Ha did I say Frank?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: You did - but we're one in the same... smile
I've seen more beautiful and unusual shots of the Canyon from you and Frank than from anyone else, Elizabeth. You clearly "took the tour."
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh thank you, Ginnie - you are too kind! We do have better access than most - and that helps! smile

The clouds and light make this so atmospheric. Maybe the two in the car have driven a long way to get here, then eaten too much pizza..
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you so much, Chris - I was quite enchanted!
I was hoping they'd seen the canyon before they passed out!

How lovely to see it with dusting of snow and the clouds touching eh top of the rim. The lighting is wonderful, too.

I think that the couple in the car have been poisoned by the Domino's pizza smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Alan! It was so gorgeous!
I wouldn't be surprised!!

WOW... what a great top image... LOVE the sun/shadows and those clouds are the cherry on the applesauce (we say)...
That couple in the car... hmmmmm that must be quite the pizza...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you so much, Astrid! It was such a beautiful sight, and we both hoped to capture some of the magic!
You know what they say about heavy carb loading... smile

An unusual photo of the Canyon with snow!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Lovely isn't it, Philine!!!
Que c'est beau ...je regrette de ne pas avoir pu le visiter lors de mon voyage ..
Merci
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Claudine!
You can always come back - we'll be your guides! smile
Like giant sugar dusted cakes

A place of beauty. The two had their fill of pizza and is now resting belly up in the sun ...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: 'tis!
Yes - saving up for the next burst down the canyon! smile
Ha ha - The amazement killed them or put them to sleep. Funny!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I hope they woke up... we didn't go back to check on them! smile
I'd been wondering if the canyon ever got snowfalls, does it ever get more than this little sprinkling? No wonder that couple are snoozing, they've just demolished that Pizza between them by the look of it!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Yes - especially the north rim @ 8,000 feet. They'll have several feet of snow December through March / April. They actually close all services at the north rim from October 15th to May 15th.
That couple has a definite carb overload!
Great shot, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Tom!!
splendour,drama and so much more
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh yes -all that!
