Detail of Vasari's Fresco

Beautiful isn't it?  (and as creepy as those little ghoulies are... they are nothin' compaired to the depictions of hell- which you don't want to see, trust me!)

I am just in awe of the artists who created masterpieces such as this, perhaps the depictions of hell would serve as a warning to us all. (you know that if you say we don't want to see it we all would want to! such is human nature)
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: They are truly amazing aren't they! I'll think about giving a link to my friends here- but I really don't think I should make it a regular post! smile
amazing talent of having created these vast frescoes centuries ago.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It is indeed incredible!

Lovely detail, Elizabeth.

About visions of hell...I think I can handle it...just take a quick peek at the sculptured Hell scenes at a temple in Thailand:

It is beautiful Elizabeth. I wouldn't have minded a glimpse of hell as a reminder not to end up there!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you Chris! Oh - I don't think you need a reminder....
I like the bad guys grin
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Welllllll, some of them aren't exactly guys....
Those are some muscular angels! I think the idea here is that the two ladies here are on their way to hell. One has the sin of vanity, the other anger, jealousy, or something not nice by her body language.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Do you think they might be in a relative Purgatory or something? the angel between them looks to be giving them a second chance.. ?
Take your word for it Elizabeth such detail in this well taken.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you Pedroeric!!

Beautiful Elizabeth; it's hard not to stare!

Now, when are you going to open the gates of hell grin
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you Martin!! Oh you guys - I just might have to show it, but it won't be a regular post!
Pretty much a weekend in Blackpool, Ellie! ( You have to have been there) smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile Haha! I'll really have to take your word for it!
Awesome is the only way to describe this. (:o)
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks so much Rosalyn!! I love it too!
They saw things in a very black and white manner, you either went up or down to your final destination!
I saw a mural in a church in Quito showing what would happen to native indians should there dare enter. A truly terrible fate awaited them.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Some of it's a little graphic for me Martin!
He was a busy little rascal Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Still is Chad!
You captured very nicely the details Elizabeth!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you so much Richard! I'm happy some of these turned out!

I have seeen "Doom" paintings in churches here, but I suspect Vasari's depiction is even more terrifying
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It's not only terrifying, but rather disgusting Lisl! smile
Yes, this is very beautiful wink
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks Aksel! Great to hear from you!
Beautiful and delightful at the same time. Those on Ray's link are horrific.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you Brian! I went to Rays link too - I have to say Vasari's hell is not quite that bad!
Lovely detail, Elizabeth. Come on, let's see the really ghoulish stuff!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you Graeme!!! I might have to show some, so many of you guys are egging me on! smile
...You did well focusing on that black ball?-earth? in a book hold by the two little evils. Artists's manifesto and serious doubts on the general script he had!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Well, the black ball is an air portal. I have no idea what the ghoulish little devils are reading - hope not to find out! smile
