A fiery looking plant indeed
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It makes rivers of red along the beds of a "dry" wash.

Wonderful detail photos - and thanks for the precise information - I hope they can survive your snow.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Philine! These all live 180 miles south, they see snow very rarely!

You are treating us this week, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I'm so glad you think so, Lisl! My passion for wildflowers is not always shared! smile
Wow, that's red! You've got a week's worth here!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Aren't the colors amazing! Thank you, Tom!
What a lot of great plants. We can grow the butterfly bush but am not sure if it is as an annual. Love the runway on the second flower. He hedgehog is gorgeous. I can see it as a centerpiece on the table. The last two could be fireworks.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I couldn't believe my luck with the variety of species - these are all from the same area. The Chuparosa is nothing like the cultivated hummingbird bush that is used in landscaping here... I think it's a European species - whereas the Chuparosa is native. It may be that Chuparosa doesn't bloom as reliably as the European species. More people should use it in Arizona, though, because it's very drought tolerant and water wise.
Lovely rich color and details. Friendship
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you so much, Ruthie!
I have a feeling you must have spent almost yoru entire holiday on your knees taking pictures of these lovely flowers.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile It was the purpose of the trip!
