photoblog image Above the Window

Above the Window

Frank stands atop Angel's Window, shown yesterday

The hard limestone crust of the Kaibab Plateau

feels solid under the feet.  Hard to believe there's

a big hole underneath, showing stress fractures

that surely will give one day.  No doubt our grandchildren

will be long gone from this earth before that happens.

John Mellencamp wrote this song after an

interesting evening with his son.

Another one of our favorites,

especially on a road trip!

I'll be without my computer again....  for at least a few days...

Frank looks great, on top and with his head in the clouds, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: He does, doesn't he?!
Frank seems enjoying the scene Elizabeth!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: One of his favorite places!

Everything changes but let's hope it'll be a long time before this place disintegrates
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I'm sure it will be - a very long time!
I am so glad this shot did not scare me but your commentary did. My luck is I would go visit and the place would fall apart.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile No - not a scary shot... though you know how we do love being on the edge - at least this one has a fence!
A happy day....smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: One of many, spent with you! XOX
You hope so!! You never can tell with cracks
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: You never can....

You and Frank have grandchildren?? Great picture.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Ha! Well, I do... I suppose they would be step-grands for him! smile
Now knowing where Frank is standing I guess he is quite a brave fellow.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: A sheer drop several thousand feet below. But you know, we both kind of get a rush out of that kind of thing! A match made in Heaven! smile

It makes you wonder just how the planet will be for the people of the future. I'm disappointed to see that Frank was not doing a handstand on top of the railings smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I'm a little frightened for the future of the Earth, quite honestly.
He would have - but there was a park ranger nearby! smile

I enjoyed the song. I can just imagine you both sitting around the camp fire in the corral...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't it great?!
That's funny!
I hope you persuaded him not to jump smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: He's still around to tell... smile
i know that Englishman... he takes photos of the Grand Canyon almost as good as you do Elizabethgrin
....petersmile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile You are too kind... he is my mentor and my muse, among other things!

Amazing sight! I like your framing with Frank on the side. It gives size to the shot.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Hollie! If we could live at the Canyon, we would! But we're happy enough that the South Rim is just 2 hours away, and the North Rim 4-5... pretty lucky!
