Moon Over...

...Well... Not Miami !

Although there IS a Miami, Arizona  :-)

This is, once again, the Vermillion Cliffs of the Paria Wilderness.

The Paria Wilderness is 117.8 square miles of plateau and canyon land.

Back in there, is the worlds longest slot canyon in the world -

a remarkable place that we've only explored a small part of (so far!).

The world famous "Wave" is in there... only 20 permits per day are

issued in a lottery.  We have yet to get in.

But not on this trip... moving on...

HAPPY  NEW  YEAR !!!

I apologize if my presence appears occasional...

my computer has been acting up so much so that

I often just give up when trying to post comments

and replies. It freezes up constantly - every 20-30 seconds.

It's maddening!!   I hope to get it into the shop next week.

I hope you and Frank are lucky with the permits, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: THANK YOU, LISL!!!! That's the best we can hope for for 2016!!
Something I've never seen, Elizabeth. I can imagine how it would take one's breath away!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It's an extraordinary place, Ginnie!! One of our favorite places... that's why we chose to go back to this area for our Honeymoon... We'll get back there again and will explore the Paria Wilderness in more depth. But on this trip... we're just passing by on our way to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon!

Such a rich display of of the life of the planet in these cliffs although probably in the grand scheme of things they are relatively new. Love the colours. Am I right in thinking that the Wave is a several days' hike from the road/trailhead?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: So true, Alan! Can you just imagine what it's taken to shape this area?
As for the hike - it's 5.2 miles in and back... so certainly a full day, depending on your pace. The hike is through a slot canyon - so there is some climbing and squeezing through... then, of course taking the time you need to get the photo's you want. No need to pack in, unless you want to explore the rest of the canyon - I'm not sure I'd want to try a pack through some of the narrow slots though...

..oh... LOL.. now I see the moon. I can't even blame New Year celebrations, either; I was in bed by 10.30pm!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile It's a bit faint in the photo - but it's there! I turned in a bit early too. Here in Flagstaff we have a beautiful pine cone that drops from the Weatherford Hotel. They do it twice - at 10:00pm for the "kids and old folks", and again at midnight! smile Time Square - eat your heart out!

I remember being truly stunned by those Wave pictures

Happy new your to you too!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Extraordinary, aren't they? We have a local photographer who has some wonderful photo's of the area - he's amazing at his craft, and a super nice guy as well - he works with film developing in his own darkroom. Produces some amazing effects. I just looked at his on line gallery, and unfortunately didn't find any of his Wave photo's... but here's the link if you're interested!
