Very nice Elizabeth. I wonder what they'll turn out to be?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: They were the eggs of a Dark Eyed Junco. A lovely "Backyard Songbird" in our area.

A lovely and unusual shot, Eizabeth - do you know what bird's eggs these are?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Lisl! They were a Dark Eyed Junco of the Gray Headed Race. A lovely "backyard songbird".
I opened mine too....then I put my glasses on
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Excellent... and all was well!
A fine example of egg art Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Aren't they just?!
Wonderfully captured Elizabeth! I like the softness.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you very much, Richard!

Beautiful, Elizabeth.
The beginnings of life.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you Pauline! Eggs are wonderful aren't they!
What do we see here? Any idea what type of bird these belong to? I realize now you answered below - a junco. I am wondering if the nest was in a tree or on the ground. They do sleep on the ground rather than higher in trees.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Hi Mary! This was about 5' up in a Skunkbush shrub that was growing against my house. I'd never had a nest there before. Despite the parents' efforts, somebody (I suspect a rock squirrel) got to the eggs the day after I shot this. :-(

How precious! They have beautiful markings. Did they hatch?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Aren't they lovely! Sadly, no- they were gone the day after I took this. I suspect a rock squirrel... :-(
