Chewing Gum Man

Ben Wilson (born 1963) is an English wood carver and outsider artist. The son of an artist, Wilson grew up in a creative environment and studied art at Middlesex University. His distaste for industrial waste, cars and rubbish eventually turned into an art form. He creates tiny works of art by painting chewing gum stuck to the pavement. Initially, his work garnered him unwanted attention from the authorities, but because he is not defacing private property but merely painting rubbish, he was found to be breaking no law. In addition to the chewing gum art, Wilson paints and sculpts. He has exhibited his paintings and sculptures in England, the United States, Germany, Ireland, Finland, France and Serbia.

I suppose...in time...he will move on to the high art of painting doggy do, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Hmmm... not quite the same I'm thinking. Chewing gum doesn't stink nor disintegrate... smile
Wasn't his work great? A really nice guy to talk to also, so original.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Truly! Yes- a very nice man!
What an original artist Elizabeth! He is doing a great job.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't that great!
Man alive, Elizabeth! There's nothing new under the sun, is there. Or maybe I mean there IS something new under the sun. Unbelievable. I tried to find him on FB and did find a Chewing Gum Man but I don't know if it's the same guy because it's not a page you can Like. You have to request him...and with no images showing, I was hesitant.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't he great! He was a very nice man, but I can't see him having a FB page. More of a free spirit.

I love people like him, they make it all worthwhile..
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't that the truth!
The man is a modern hero turning one of the most annoying things into something to raise a smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: So simple - but it can definitely put a smile on your face!

This is amazing, what a great thing to do. You have to have a lot of imagination. Not one piece is the same.
You were lucky to 'bump' into him smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't that great! He was the nicest man, too!

Does your chewing gum lose its flavor
on the bedpost overnight?
If your mother says don't chew it,
Do you swallow it in spite?
Can you catch it on your tonsils,
Can you heave it left & right?
Does your chewing gum lose its flavor
on the bedpost overnight?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh I haven't thought of that in a while!

I must look more carefully next time I cross the Millennium bridge. Very interesting.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Yes - and his work was elsewhere as well!

Well, I never. I never cease to be amazed bu the ingenuioty of some people creating something more pleasing that just the rubbish left by others. Are both those images on the Millennium Bridge?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't it great?! Yep - we followed him up on the bridge and chatted with him a while

Excellent stuff ELizabeth, I have seen chewing gum with glitter embedded, but not painted, great idea.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh! And I've never seen glitter!
Some people have no hobbies. This post proves there is something for everyone. He seems a lovely soul after seeing the video.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Well that's right! We talked to him a while - very nice man!

Very interesting - and an absolutely new information to me - I should look more carefully ...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't it?! I thought it was quite innovative!
Gum pollutes the world in a rapid way
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: So true - but I have to confess that I love chewing it!
I've never heard of anything like this before, mind you I hate chewing gum and detest people who just spit it out rather than dispose of it properly.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Interesting isn't it! I understand... but at least he's making art of it!
Inventive fellas these Wilsons smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh yes... smile

Sounds an interesting guy - he should have plenty of scope with all the chewing gum around
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: He was so nice, too, Anne!
That's quite the find and inventive too.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I'm so happy we ran into him. Very nice guy!
Clever.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: He is!
