Unfurl...

The Duke and Dutchess were entertaining one of my pregnant cousins the day Frank and I visited Bowhill.  Therefore we were not invited in for tea... quite disappointing.  However, we were able to stroll the grounds, which we probably enjoyed more than we would have liked looking at a bunch of old artwork anyway.  :-)

So that's what you get to see of Bowhill... outside!

Bowhill is one of five Buccleuch Estates.

If you have any interest, here are the others...

An odd looking thingamy...smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: They are odd aren't they Larry.... I've always been amazed that a delicate fan of a fern will unfurl from one of these thingamy's!
Quite odd and fascinating Elizabeth!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Very much so, Richard! Thank you!

I'm not one for admiring the insides of old houeses, eitehr; the grounds are gardens and the architecture are more appealing. It's fascinating to see a timelapse shot of these things unfurling.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Somehow I thought you might agree!
I have seen one of those time lapses.... incredible!
I don't think you should refer to the family history as a bunch of old artwork E grin Or were you referring to the Duke and Duchess?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile Oh, alright.... smile They do, apparently, have an extensive art collection- much of it transferred to Bowhill House from the other four estates during unsettled times.
And yes- it could refer to the elders... smile
Superb, Elizabeth. You can almost feel the tension before it pings open.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you very much Pauline!
very odd, never seen it before
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Well I'm glad I could show you something new! smile
Ferns are a favorite plant of mine. At first sight, this is a fiddlehead, an edible fern.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: They are beautiful aren't they! I had no idea there were edible ones! Good to know... Thanks!
Nearly time for the big unwind Elizabeth. Curious looking at this stage
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Just about!!! They truly are odd!
I have to confess I prefer the grounds and exteriors of stately piles. Still yo were invited to the Fern Ball smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Yes, me too!
Oh aren't you a wit!!! smile
You should have sent warning of your arrival, Elizabeth, then you could have joined the party! By the way, has Frank gone to sleep - he seems not to be commenting on anyone these days smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Perhaps.... smile
I just asked him... he frowned and said - "Have I forgotten Tom? I don't remember forgetting Tom"... smile
apt title and very well shown off. the green sets off nicely against that background
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks so much Ayush!!! Much appreciated!

The fern itself looks almost embryonic,
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh - yes you're right!! Thanks Martin!
