Scott's Oriole

The  Scott's Oriole (Icterus parisorum) is a medium-sized icterid (the same family as many blackbirds, meadowlarks, cowbirds, grackles, and others, including the New World orioles).  It is primarily found in the Southwestern United States and south to Baja California Sur and Central Mexico.

As many of our desert birds tend to be more drap in color... browns and grays (for survival puposes), it's such a joy to see one of our brightly colored animals!

Digging stuff out of the archives now!  :-)

This bird can be seen overall - I like the composition with all the blooming trees that are framing this beautiful bird. Does he sing well?

Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: He's really pretty - you should see him through binoculars- not through my old Minolta 35mm lens with a dirty window as a filter! smile
