Today is my daughter Abby's 36th birthday....  and the 18th anniversary of 9/11.

Such extreme emotions that are polar opposites... but one does not ever diminsh the other.  The first saw new life given, the second saw life needlessly taken away.

Pride   Love   Community   Expectation  Uncertainty   Joy / Sadness   Heartbreak

Those are all words I can relate to Abby for one reason or another, and to my country.

We will never forget...  XOX

How lovely! It brought a smile to my face instantly!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I'm so glad, Ray - flowers will do that!
quite right, the way you put the sentence "The first saw new life given, the second saw life needlessly taken away" and you have a wonderful collage of brilliant blooms to go with. happy birthday to your daughter, Elizabeth.

Beautiful wild flowers, Elizabeth! smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Martin.... yes - I think the entire college walked around in a daze that day, and she finally found some friends who were happy to change the mood for just a bit.
Such gorgeous wild flowers in your mountain or desert meadow!

Happy Birthday Abby!

18 years ago, when Abby was 18.

I hope she gets to see the beautiful arrangement you made for her.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you very much, Louis. Much appreciated!
Firstly a very fine collage Elizabeth, and two reasons to remember today. In a similar vein our son Chris celebrated his 21st.birthday on the day Princess Diane was killed in the awful road accident so we tend to remember two events on 31st.August each year.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you so much, Brian. It's always difficult isn't it...
Happy birthday to your Abby. My husband lost a cousin in the Twin Towers that day. We will never forget. Friendship
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Ruthie... and I'm so sorry. XOX

Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you and thank you.... thank you very much, Bill!

A splendid composition illustrating this beautiful collage of colorful wildflowers!! It's unfortunate that one's birthday gets overshadowed by 9/11. I have a friend whose birthday is also today and he always felt slighted. A friend's daughter also celebrates her birthday today. Here's hoping that Abby's special day outshines the gloom from 2001.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you very much, Steven... these things are so difficult to react to - you feel bad celebrating, but you feel bad not celebrating.... you feel bad mourning... but you feel bad not mourning. I suppose many feel the same. Thank you - Abby had a good day!
