Bad Hair Day

We were in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, of Northern New Mexico just as the Western Tent Caterpillar Moths (Malacosoma constrictum) were starting to emerge.  They're about as small as my thumbnail - and are just adorable!  They look like itty bitty little Yak's or something!  Their fuzzy little faces really looked like they'd just awoken from a long nap.

Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you so much, Martine!
amusing title and so well seen, Elizabeth. they were probably stunned, being confronted by their first reflection on a big lens. i think the second one is my favourite although i like all of them.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Ayush! They are just so cute! They were definitely stunned - probably from emerging into the wild world with wet wings! smile Thank you for naming your favorite - I like that one, too!

Made me laugh. Typically, I run from critters, but Fuzzy ,here captured my attention!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile I'm soooo glad! That makes me happy!
Oh my, Elizabeth. How cute is that!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Don't you just love them!!! Of course - not so much when the caterpillars are stripping the trees but.... smile Perhaps this is God's way of balancing things out - by making them super cute!

I love their expressions. I've never seen such woolly moths before!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Aren't they adorable?! I think this is Gods way of balancing things, because the caterpillars will completely strip trees of their foliage - so we usually hate seeing them...

Hhahah!! I'm sure that when I had hair, I would often appear like this - well, minus the feelers.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I do regularly... minus the feelers!
They are the most appealing little creatures
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I sure think so!

Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: That would be horrible!!! But now you can think of these guys... and it's not so bad!
It looks rather cute face on.
