I do like the Cactus flowers Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I do too, their colors are always so bold!

All beautiful, but of course, I love the red the most (I think)
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile Thank you, Bonnie! That red is quite rich!
Aïe, ça pique ! Quelles épines !
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Yep - not one to mess with, but they're pretty!

Definitely would want to stay away from those spines! I love the pristine ones in the first photo.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: For sure! Especially the cholla - the spines have barbs on the end so when you brush up against one they grab you and the whole ball comes off! Some call them jumping cholla - because it seems like the balls jump onto you. Strategic for the plant.. once you finally get it off of you, wherever the plant ball lands - it will sprout roots and grow a new plant! But extremely painful for us!

When a cactus gets around to flowering it does it in style
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh they do, indeed! Cactus blossoms are always showy and bold!

That is a good defence.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh yeah!
The top photo is tops! The purple being stabbed repeatedly has a great effect. smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks so much, Mary!! What a great description!
Great lighting in the top shot, and delightful flowers in the centre, Cacti do tend to grow interesting flowers.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks so much, Brian! Cactus flower are always showy and bold!

Only the most determined (or stupid) would want to fiddle around with these cacti. The hedgehog cactus is aptly named and has beautiful flowers.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Well, you just can't.... you just can't.
Yes - the flowers are always beautiful!
Beautiful warm light. I like the contrast of the elegant flowers with the spikes!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Ruthie! It's always something to behold!
