Savannah

We're just back from our trip to Georgia and South Carolina.   I'm pleased that Frank was able to get a taste of the Great Southern Hospitality, and enjoy the architecture and charm of these beautiful places.

An inviting entry with colorful accents! Nice interiors as well.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't it lovely?! Very Southern, I felt...
Nice shots Elizabeth, very representative of the place.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Frank! I appreciate that you think so!

I like the brace of pumpkins best, Elizabeth.

Did Frank like the Cajun food?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile Thank you, Ray!
No Cajun food in Savannah... but plenty of sea food... smile
Very nice. That "old world" feel to it all.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Rob - very much so!
I'm so thrilled Frank got to see this part of America, Elizabeth! And it's timely that you say "Southern Hospitality" because just the other day while FaceTiming with g'son Nicholas, he said that's what he most misses in Oregon! It really IS a "thing."
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Me too, Ginnie!
I love that Nicholas notices that... smile

How far away from Flagstaff is this, Elizabeth?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: 1,900 miles!
Cette façade est vraiment magnifique , l'interieur très accueillant
Merci Elisabeth
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't it wonderful! I find it very charming!

THAT is Savannah, Elizabeth. Don't you just love this. It is the whole thing. The architecture the Spanish Moss that hangs from the trees, the people. Last time we were there was just before Thanksgiving. All the decorations, it was just a delight and I am happy for Frank he could see it too. I thought I was in photographers heaven.... short of eyes all the time..... (this was just the short of it why I like that neck of the wood... grin...)
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you so much for your high praise, Astrid!
Having been there... you and Ginnie would know!

That' very impressive. I can just picture Union flags (GB) hanging there before we decided to let America go smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It's really lovely!

Fabulous house. I am always amused at flags being hung. It’s as if the owners need constantly to remind themselves which country they are in.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It is lovely!
It's hard to explain American Patriotism to a foreigner. I have a hard time explaining it even to Frank. I think it has something to do with the fact that we are the only country who actually chose to be a country. People came here from their homelands to establish a country of their own. But I'll also say that there are a lot of flag wavers in general... Americans are also sports crazy and we see flags of collegiate teams and pro teams all over the place - even on cars and trucks!
A fine Victorian house E. I look forward to seeing more from your trip
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you - I do really love that architecture!

I am used to the savannas being our equivalent of the steppe, or that Savannah is a girls name. So I gather this Savannah is a town, where they grow pumpkins on the stairs and have grand old guest houses. Special.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It is special - I mean, where else do they grow pumpkins on the stairs? Here:

The town was named for the Savannah River, which took its name from an immigrant band of Shawnee Indians known as the Savana, who settled near the site of present day Augusta in 1681

Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Indeed it is!
Who wouldn't like to visit that lovely house, I like the period style interior.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It was very special.. and I do appreciate that they kept much of the Victorian style

This is a perfect POV....not sure I would have found that angle! This image also tells a very good story about time, place, and weather! Gracious.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It was hard to find the best way to showcase the stairway...
Thank you so much for your kind comments!

What a lovely place!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Indeed - I agree!
Makes me think of a book from a few years ago where the city was like a character in the book. Fabulous!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh I'd say, Mary!! Thank you!
Beautiful places! So magnificent! Is this where you stayed?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Paula!
I'm afraid not - above my pay grade!! But I poked my head inside to take a look anyway! smile

Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: That's a lovely way to describe them!

a wonderful hotel, I am sure that Frank was enthousiast, it might remind him a bit of merry old England.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It is lovely! I think some of the Victorian homes certainly did!
