'Snow Joke... this drive...

Friday, January 20th, 2017

As the snowstorm was rolling in, we begin to drop down

"The Switchbacks" into Oak Creek Canyon, North of Sedona.

Dropping 4500 feet in 14 miles, it's one of the most

beautiful drives in any season.  You can see the

road curving below us, at the bottom of the frame.

I cannot tell you how much respect I have for the snow

plow operators.  We have over 200 plows, and they'd

obviously been running non-stop since the beginning

of the storm.  Here, the "switch backs" have already

been cleared to ensure everyone's safety.

They do a grand job, Elizabeth, coping with this extreme weather
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: They are quite amazing!
It was a more than usual spectacular drive, Elizabeth. Good capture, and yes, you have to respect those plough ( proper spelling smile ) drivers.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: The beauty should never be taken for granted... but sometimes it's just a bit more than usual, isn't it!
Proper, schmopper... remember where you are! smile

What a clever shot, Elizabeth...even more points deserved if you were the driver at the time!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Ray! I assuredly was not! smile
Lots of sense and sensibility needs to kick in in such places, Elizabeth, I'm sure! WOW.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh yeah! You know it! Thanks, Ginnie!

What a fabulous view. You can tell this is a wonderful surrounding. Great tribute to the snowplow-drivers. They are the ones always under bad conditions. What a challenging job.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Lovely, isn't it!
Those ;low drivers amaze me!

Dramatic stuff isn't it. I'm very impressed by that fall in road level on the top picture
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: One day we'll video it for ya'all!
It's such a fun drive!

Yay! Good on those crews who help keep the roads safe in such conditions. even in a snow storm, the view is glorious but so very different to when I've driven down there, of course.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile Thank you for the "Yay"! Those snow plow guys are incredible - I can't believe how agile they are with those giant trucks!
I'm sure this area looked quite different when you saw it!
Great stuff E. These snow plough blokes earn their money
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks Bill! Yes, they do, indeed!

Oh, what a snowstorm, I admire your driving skills!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It was soooo beautiful, Philine! A winter wonderland!
Frank was driving this time... but we do take turns!
The curve of the road in the first shot is awesome. I do not like driving switchbacks but it's what you have to do I guess.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Mary! It's my favorite of the many curves on this road!
It looks very cold Elizabeth but very beautiful too.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: All of that, and more! smile
They really have got the road nice and clear, I don't think our local authorities even know what a snow plough is, or even a salter'gritter lorry round where I live.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: They do an amazing job, Brian! We not only have these big plows.... we also have guys that stick plows on the front of their Chevy/Ford/Dodge pickup trucks for the smaller streets and neighborhoods!
Terrific shot, Elizabeth! With that amount of snow traffic in the UK would grind to a halt!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you so much, Tom!
I imagine that's true!
I went down a descent like that in Utah... never again!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh it's all good fun, Larry!! smile

A beautiful winterscape image with the powdered sugar-dusted evergreens!!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Northern Arizona is a most beautiful place when it snows! Thank you Steven - I appreciate your visits!
