Airports aren't known for their artwork, necessarily.  But many have (and many ARE) some remarkable pieces just the same.  This series features some that I've encountered and enjoyed recently.

Its very elegant, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Yes, elegant is exactly what it is!

A very powerful image!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I like to think she watches over us as we prepare to do, what humans weren't meant to...

It reminds me of Gormley's sculptures - but this is a female figure symbolizing a good, safe & sound flight!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It seems to be the consensus - that it's reminiscent of Gormley!
It's like she's looking after everyone. What a beautiful piece of art - she's stunning.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: That's exactly how I felt Pauline!

She could be the protection angel for all those flying on any given day! How comforting.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: That's how I felt - and it actually was quite comforting!

beautiful statue ,really nice shot
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks so much Noel! Appreciate your visit!
An elegant version of our Angel of the North.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Several of you you bring that up - she is definitely more elegant.
quite appropriate then, that the hands form wings
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I think so, Ayush - like she's ready to travel with you.

I like this so much more than our own "Angel of the North" Elizabeth - it seems protective rather than threatening
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: This one is so elegant I think!
good POV
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks Chantal!
This reminds me a bit of the angel of the North
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Many have said that - and I remember Frank Croston posting that one - this seems a bit more elegant!
A strong embracing image Elizabeth; I'm guessing this is up high, overlooking the airport? smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks so much Martin! Actually she wasn't very high - and as I recall, sadly, she looked over the rental car parking lot.
A fine sculpture Elizabeth. Several have mentioned our "Angel of the North" which you can see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_of_the_North
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Yes, I remember Frank Croston posting an image of her... http://blueskys.shutterchance.com/image/2012/08/12/swirling-angel/
She isn't quite as elegant as this one
Stunning & comforting. Nice light too.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks so much Jacquelyn!
She has a serence look on her face -to help relax those nervous fliers??
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: She is lovely and calming!

I wonder whether Gormley (Angel of the North) was influenced by this or the other way around Elizabeth. Of course neither artist might have known about the other.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I don't really know, Chad - I've been unsuccessful at finding any info on this lovely statue.

It reminded me of Gormley's Angel of the North too
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Frank Croston had posted an image of that one. This seems more elegant
A wonderful and elegant statue Elizabeth!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I was very pleased to see her Richard!
I see more and more art pieces at airports Elizabeth, is a question of budget but these places are ideal for exposure...Yr angel is very interesting, name of the artist?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It's good isn't it! I can't tell you the artist - I've found ZERO info about this!!! I can't understand why!
The winged arms resemble a propeller...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: They do, don't they!
