Stained Glass

Sky Harbor International Airport

Airports aren't known for their artwork, necessarily.  But many have (and many ARE) some remarkable pieces just the same.  This series features some that I've encountered and enjoyed recently.

Not many airport terminals look like this, Elizabeth!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I reckon not Ray!

Somebody had fun here. Beautiful gold.
When I looked at the name of this Airport, that is translated Dutch. Lucht Haven = Sky Harbor...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It was lovely with the sun shining through it. Lucht Haven - that's beautiful isn't it!
This is a very strange abstract stained glass Ellie...
i watched the golf games from your great state over the weekend in Scottsdale... since i am left handed i was pleased that Phil won this PGA tournament this yeargrin....petersmile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I know! I just loved the golds in it!
It was a gorgeous weekend to finish it off - the previous weekend had been cold and rainy. Go Phil! smile

It looks like a gold mine, Elizabeth!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: That's what it reminded me of Ginnie!!!

I expect that the other three terminals are quite envious Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: As well they should be, Chad! smile

I would never have guessed this emanated from an airport Elizabeth!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It formed a partition from one gate waiting area to another. Lovely, eh?

A type of glass staining I haven't seen before. Looks like molten beer bottle glass - great effect.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It did have a wonderful texture Louis!

Unusual textures for glass, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It was heavily textured, I love this and the color!
The colour of a decent beer. So that's fine by me smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I'll keep this in mind, Bill! Glad I could make you happy! smile
I can see a skull in this, and I have only been drinking coffee.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It frightens me that Frank saw the same thing... the skull part doesn't frighten me... the thinking alike does! smile
I've been hangin' around with that Michael too much,I can see a skull too! This is a lovely piece of glass, Ellie.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I've told Michael that frightens me - not the skull, but the thinking alike part! smile
It's lovely Elizabeth, just like a cave full of gold.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks Pauline! You always have a lovely way of putting things!
pure abstract nice
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks Chantal!
Wonderful colour and texture Elizabeth - how big is this?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you Martin! This image captures about a 1x2 foot section of what was about 4x8 I'd guess. It was a partition between gate waiting areas at the airport. I was just really taken by this section for some reason!
It makes for a very good abstract shot Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks Brian - I just loved the color and textures!
The texture and colours of this stained glass are magnificent, Elizabeth. Do you know who the artist is?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: That's exactly what drew me! I don't recall the artist being listed. It was a small piece of a large partition between gate waiting areas at the airport

I can't imagine doing a series on the beauties of UK airports! This is very beautiful.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Well perhaps you should, Alan... beauty is where you fine it! smile
Lovely effect smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks Sarah! I love the color and textures!

I don't think I would have guessed this was glass - it looks very metallic
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It really does have that "feel" doesn't it? I believe it's supposed to evoke copper - as Arizona is the Copper State.
Looks as though it was a nasty accident, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Well now there's an unfortunate way to view it! smile
Looks like a gold bar!
Great capture Elizabeth!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I'll take it if it is! smile Thanks Richard!
Is this a detail, or a whole work. Strange looking, well pictured.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: This was about a 1x2 foot piece of a much larger, maybe 4x8 panel separating two gate waiting areas at the airport. I liked the textures and color! Thanks Graeme!
I never see a thing like this in an airport...
Well job Elizabeth!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It was a beautiful surprise! Thanks Eduardo!
