Why We Came

After clammering about on TOP of the shelf, we climb down low to find what we came for.  Beautiful colors, looking up hundreds of feet to the Paria Plateau above us, feeling small, feeling like we're the only living souls in the world.  It's so amazing to be in a slot canyon like this, and to walk along the sandy path between the water sculpted walls.

Yup!

Wonderland!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Truly!
indeed the colours are very good, Elizabeth. depending on person to person, i can imagine that some would find it mildly panic inducing?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Ayush! It's so pretty in there!
I suppose if you've got a problem with claustrophobia - you wouldn't travel the sandy, pitted, rutted out 30 mile road to get there! smile

That must have been quite an experience, Elizabeth, especially as you had the place to yourselves
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It's always so amazing, Lisl! And as it's very difficult to get to - it doens't attract crowds!
C'est superbe ! Bonne année et bonne santé !
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It is truly wonderful! Thank you, Martine!

It looks to be an eerie world down there
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It's certainly different - I just love it!
It's an incredible place on earth, Elizabeth, but I wonder how many people get claustrophobic in such a slot???

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and Frank.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: One of our favorites!
I can't imagine anyone with that condition making the hours long trek, 30 miles of it on a sandy, pitted, rutted out dirt road requiring 4x4 or AWD... with a slot as a destination! smile
something rather special E
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It is, indeed, Bill!

Wonderful! I especially like the constant of colours as the sun hits the walls and then it gets reflected elsewhere. I still can't get my head around the power of water to do this; incredible.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Alan! The light is so beautiful as it bounces around on the walls!
The money shot then! Glad you made it through. Happy New Year.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile Perhaps! Thank you, Mary! And a Happy New Year to you!
If one could walk into this at ground level then I would very much like to walk through it.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: The flat parts are very nice.... but it does require climbing to get to them...
