Not As Easy As It Looks

Frank follows me down from the heights shown yesterday.  This angle doesn't show the steepness of this rock face, or how far we still were from the canyon floor... but we were able to find some "ledges" maybe 4" in width, that our good desert hiking shoes gripped onto nicely.

i really love the bold colours here, Elizabeth. good footwear is a must in a place like this!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks so much, Ayush! It's a very colorful place! And yes, the footwear is critical! I took a friend hiking, and there was a brief bit almost as steep as this... I heard her saying to herself "Trust your shoes, Katie... trust your shoes..." smile

Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Ray!
You are a very brave pair....
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It's all fun! smile

Non, cela ne doit pas être facile, c'est raide.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It was very steep!! But that made it a fun challenge!
It looks downright steep to me, Elizabeth. Man alive. The things you two do!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It was! And so much fun!!

Being an english gentleman, Frank obviously said "After you. my love". Then of course had you slipped, he could have found a better way ... (Only joking; glad you made it down safely] The colours are beautiful.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Ha! That might have been his ploy... smile
The colors here are spectacular!

Hard on the knees I’d imagine Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It was such a slow process, our knees didn't bother us - fortunately it's not a problem we have anyway.
Not for the faint hearted, good job it was dry underfoot
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Nope - but loads of fun! Oh yes - we wouldn't have been there if it had been wet... people die in slot canyons ya know?! smile
These places are always impressive, and the colors are decidedly photographic
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I think so, too, Claudio! The reds and oranges here are as beautiful as the blues you have at Lake Como!
My word you two do some frightening things, I couldn't even contemplate doing this even though it is a lovely place.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I'm afraid it's our idea of fun! smile

Oh, I admire your brave walking skills, no sticks, I were too anxious to go along these rocks.
But in my youth I was a good mountaineer.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Sticks don't really work with this kind of climbing - you need hands free. I imagine you have some good stories, Philine!
Well, we know you both got down safely!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Yep! Here to tell about it! smile
Next time bring a crazy carpet. smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Ha! That WOULD be fun!! smile
Better you up there than me... smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile You stay safe... just look at photos!

Gorgeous colors accompanied in these sheer rock formations! Frank looks like he has the magic touch to scale the rock.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks so much, Steven! Frank has a long history of rock hiking / climbing... though most of it's been in England... where the rock is wet and slippery! So this was a piece of cake! smile
