There had been a rockslide in the slot canyon years ago... causing a ten foot high pourover which someone had kindly placed a tree limb against for climbing purposes. It's near the beginning of the canyon, thus the beginning of "the good part" - once you climb down - you're in a wonderland! Being in such spectacular shape, Frank and I have never had a problem with this obstacle. But this day - there was a party of 8 or 10 - children and out of shape folks, clogging up the narrow slot as they tried to climb up - when we were wanting to climb down. Instead of heeding proper etiquite... one man up, then allow one man down, kind of thing... they inconsiderately kept struggling while I stood there steaming.
Here is Frank's photo of me in this exact spot when we were climbing out at the end of our hike:
My dear husband decided we should back out, and climb up and over the slot- leaving these people before I punched one of them in the head (I wouldn't really, but if looks could kill...). Grumpy as I was about the situation - we got to see some amazing landscape we wouldn't have otherwise. And though we've never scored a permit into "The Wave" & "Coyote Buttes", a short distance away... this was nearly as spectacular. Looking back at the photos- I'm so glad the rude people stopped up the drain... and that Frank took us on this truly spectacular route instead. Thank you My Love!
