There had been a rockslide in the slot canyon years ago... causing a ten foot high pourover which someone had kindly placed a tree limb against for climbing purposes.  It's near the beginning of the canyon, thus the beginning of "the good part" - once you climb down - you're in a wonderland!  Being in such spectacular shape, Frank and I have never had a problem with this obstacle. But this day - there was a party of 8 or 10 - children and out of shape folks, clogging up the narrow slot as they tried to climb up - when we were wanting to climb down.  Instead of heeding proper etiquite... one man up, then allow one man down, kind of thing... they inconsiderately kept struggling while I stood there steaming.

Here is Frank's photo of me in this exact spot when we were climbing out at the end of our hike:

My dear husband decided we should back out, and climb up and over the slot- leaving these people before I punched one of them in the head (I wouldn't really, but if looks could kill...).  Grumpy as I was about the situation - we got to see some amazing landscape we wouldn't have otherwise.  And though we've never scored a permit into  "The Wave" & "Coyote Buttes", a short distance away... this was nearly as spectacular.  Looking back at the photos- I'm so glad the rude people stopped up the drain... and that Frank took us on this truly spectacular route instead.  Thank you My Love!

Take a deep breath, Elizabeth...

Now...another one...

Better?

Great images of a beautiful terrain.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: You sound like Frank!! "Hot headed Italian broad"! smile
Thank you, Ray!
i loved the picture that Frank took of you Elizabeth...
be kind to the old fat and out of shape of people...
one day you may be one of them...grin
....petersmile

love your shots of slot canyon...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks, Peter! I love "bouldering", it's a favorite thing!
Well... It's not that I care if they're old, fat and out of shape... they issue was that they were so inconsiderate! smile
Thank you, Peter!
I love the bits of life everywhere...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Me, too, Larry! It's amazing the plants that grow out of rock!
very nice framing, Elizabeth, and i love the deep shade of blue in the sky
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Ayush! The skies here are so beautiful!

Impressive pictures and I think 'somebody from above' sent those 'corks' in the narrow passage to make you make a detour and see these wonders of nature!!!!!
I love the cactussoes.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I thin you're right, Astrid!! It was an amazing detour! Thank you!

Quelles jolies couleurs ! C'est incroyable que la végétation arrive à  pousser dans un sol aussi sec.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't it beautiful? Yes - it always amazes me, too!
I look at these images with my mouth wide open, Elizabeth. You and Frank have managed to see some spectacular wonders not far from you. OMG. And yes, thank God for rude people who end up giving you the opportunity to make lemonade!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: We are so fortunate to live where we do! Flagstaff is the perfect "hub" for landscape photographers... of which there are many here! Best laid plans... not always the best one! smile

Yay! Good for you and your man! I think I would felt exactly the same as you did smile But look at the wondered you were presented with, though; stunning smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It was unexpected... not quite "The Wave"... but close! Thank you, Alan!

It often works iff you "go with the flow", but I can imagine your seething, Elizabeth. I remember once standing back on a tricky bit of cliff for a party of teenagers - over 20 - and not one had the courtesy to say thank you
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Some days I'm more patient than others! smile On a hike like this - every minute spent standing around, is a treasure not seen. What is it with teenagers these days?

Terrific stuff isn't it, a truly spectacular place
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: So amazing when you're there!
Magnifique spectacle ..espace naturel somptueux !
Merci
Bonne journée
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you so much, Claudine! I love this place!

Oops, is that a rain cloud coming. Oh, it’s not like Blackpool.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Frank would point to that and stay "STORM!"
Sounds like the people are as varied as your amazing landscapes are.
We have a saying 'Nowt so funny as Folk' I particularly like the last image with the cactus.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Well yes... I'd like to say they were Texans.... everyone loves to hate Texans! smile But I have no idea where they were from. I like your saying!
Thank you, Martin!
You see E there is a reason for everything. You were meant to go this way and take these pictures.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: You are absolutely right, Bill!
Close to heaven, these photos show. Wonderful!!!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Indeed, it feels so! Thank you, Mary!
It sounds a bit like two people with their supermarket trollies blocking the aisle why they chat totally oblivious to all the other people being held up. In the end they done you a favour, you might not have seen this wonderful scenery.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh Frank complains about that all the time! smile
SO true in this case, Brian!
Wonderful colours!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: The South West at her best!

Yeh, the inconsiderate lot ... Your pictures are great and I like the upwards angle in each of them.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile Thank you so much, Louis! Merry Christmas!
