Sunlight on Bright Angel Canyon

... Sort of.  I just liked the title!  :-)

This week some photos from the Grand Canyon's South Rim.

To be followed next week by images from the North Rim.

Very different environments, and a very different experience.

And the light was ever changing...

the cloudscape is really pleasant to look at and complements the rugged landscape below, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Ayush... it's why Fran and I say that no matter how many times we see it - it always looks different!

Beautiful captures of the Canyon here!! I love the contrast between the ominous sky and the glorious light that bathes the Canyon below.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Steven! A much appreciated compliment!

Superbes couleurs pour ce paysage.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Aren't they lovely! Pretty much what you see when you're there!
I have a feeling some of these "pillars" have distinct names, Elizabeth. I see at least 4 good ones there.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: You are right, Ginnie! Most of them do - though I've yet to find a comprehensive source for all of them - perhaps I should be the one to create it! smile I believe I know which ones you've spotted here, and from left to right, they'll be Buddha Temple and Manu Temple... then on the right side of Bright Angel Canyon is Brahma Temple and Zoroaster Temple. I love to know my "neighbors"!
Magnifque tout ça , tes deux photos sont vraiment superbes !
Bonne journée Elisabeth
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Claudine! It is hard to take a bad photo of the Grand Canyon! smile
Have a lovely day, Claudine!

I notice that you are on a high point here for the horizon is flat. That is one of the things that fascinates me about the Grand Canyon. And YES I like the title too... I so enjoy your series.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Yes, the South Rim is around 7,000 feet in elevation. The River (the lowest point) is a mile below us! We are gazing north the the North Rim... which is actually a thousand feet higher. Just hard to perceive at this distance (7 - 10 miles). Thanks so much, Astrid!

The sun has certainly teased out all the colours, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't it lovely how it does that! Thank you, Lisl!

Works for me! I like the play of light here with the shadows from the cloud and the sunlight.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks so much, Alan! It was certainly lovely that day!
The light is working well for you E
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Very special that day!

It is just so vast.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: You just can't take it in... and literally... as you can never see more than a quarter of the Grand Canyon from any one point.
You will never tire of this magnificent vista.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Never. And when you keep in mind that you can never see more than a quarter of the Grand Canyon from any one point... the possibilities are endless!
A day with sun and cloud would be best to visit to get this beautiful effect. Really nice!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: We were certainly fortunate that day, Mary! Thank you!
The small area of sunlight breaking through gives more atmosphere than if the the whole area was dull or bathed in sunshine.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: You're absolutely right, Brian! It's amazing no matter the weather - this kind of sky is ideal!
I only visited once, many years ago, but the experience stays with me!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It's the kind of place that gets into your soul! Much like the Lake District, I feel.
There is no such thing as a bad picture of the Canyon...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I've taken a few... smile But definitely operator error!

The light create great layers in both pictures - great stuff.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks so much, Louis!
Super pic's Elizabeth, you must take me one day...smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Mr. Croston! You name the date... It's done! smile
