The Black Swan

Happy Solar Eclipse Day!!!

Stay safe people... ONLY wear AAS approved eye protection!

Your regular ol' sunglasses, no matter how "good", dark,

or expensive will let in a thousand times too much UV!

Jolies prises de ce beau cygne noir.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Martine!
Thanks for the warning! I plan to avoid sun-looking but I plan to photograph some of the leaf-shadows come eclipse time.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Did you get some fun photos? We had too much cloud cover to get any shadows :-( But we had our special specs and were able to see the eclipse through the clouds! Pretty cool!!!

I love black swans...Oz has only black ones.

I suppose you will be seriously busy for a few weeks after the eclipse...grafting bionic eyes into those folks who could't obey the warnings...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Me too, Ray! Something about them!
smile I hope not. Cuz we're fresh out of bionic eyes!
Thanks for the warning, Elizabeth. I'm afraid we'll hear of many casualties tomorrow. (sigh)

In the meantime, seeing a rare black swan seems appropriate for the day.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile I hope not - surely people watch the news!
I thought the black swan seemed fitting (better than the ducks and flamingo's I've lined up for the rest of the week, anyway!) smile

I hope people will be sensible, but you know there will be mant casualties...
Black swans are rare here but I so like them. Great pictures.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Me too, Astrid... we'll see! (no pun intended!)
I've seen them very rarely, myself! Thank you!

A lovely graceful bird

You would know about UV protection for eyes Ellie. In 1999 when we had a full solar eclipse in the UK most people wore eclipse glasses
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: They are just lovely!
I hope people here were as sensible... from all reports so far that holds true!

clinicclonic will need to extend its opening hours and get in more staff in the next few weeks. The black swans always look even more graceful than the white ones.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile I hope not - there's nothing we can do for any idiots! smile
Black swans definitely have a presence, don't they?

Oh, what a beautiful swan- oh, I remember a full solar eclipse in my youth! We looked at the sun using darkened glasses.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't he wonderful!
The eclipse was something to behold!
I remember the eclipse here. Enjoy!!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: So amazing!!

Did you spot these over here, Elizabeth? I have seen them occasionally in a place called Dawlish on the South Coast
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: They were at the Martin Mere Wildlands Preserve!

Oh yes, the big day, how I would love to be there. I really like this swan Elizabeth. It almost looks like a black and white with spot colour.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It was quite spectacular, Chad!
Thank you very much!

A white swan caught in the solar eclipse? smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Could be... gazed upon with solar specs!
I think the eclipse is at something like its best round your way so if it is make sure to take your own advice. We have a pub in Shepshed called the 'Black Swan' or as it's more commonly know, the 'Mucky Duck!'
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: We had 70% in Flagstaff, and watched it creep along over the course of two hours - with our special solar specs of course!
I think I might enter the "Black Swan"... not so sure the "Mucky Duck"!
Love the top shot! I remember black swans from AU.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Mary! I've not seen them often - this was at the Martin Mere Wetlands Preserve in Preston, Northern England
Two nice shots, Ell', it was a lovely bird.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Than you, Frank! Yes he was!
This one is a little off its usual beat smile
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Probably so... he was at the Martin Mere Wetlands Preserve in Preston!
