Flutter-By's

Ok Lisl... You're at bat... Can you ID these beauties for me?

The top two were found at Martin Mere Wetlands Trust - near Southport / Preston

This is very much like our "Red Admiral"  (Vanessa atalanta):

This one was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park:

Jolies photos de ces beaux papillons.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you very much, Martine!
Each of them is beautiful and so different at the same time... three good shots Elizabeth....petersmile

They are a pretty collection, Elizabeth, just like yesterday's flars.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you so much, Ray! Much appreciated!
they are exquisite, Elizabeth. i found it always a challenge to 'shoot' them.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you so much, Ayush! They don't often cooperate - it's true! Easier to "shoot" moths... and they typically rest with their wings open. Butterflies like to close them when resting.

Butterflies are so beautiful and what can Lisl win wink.... I will come back later to see the answers...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: They always are such a lovely sight to see, aren't they! Ummm.... I'll have to think of a prize! smile
Flutter-bys are so wonderful, Elizabeth, aren't they! I'm sure Lisl will know what they are.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Always! smile I'm counting on her! I'm sure she won't have any problem with these - Chris probably knows them also...

Peacock, Red Admiral and Gatekeeper from the look of them Ellie
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Oh Chris! I should have known you'd get them! Thank you!!
Chris is, of course, totally correct
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Totally!
Le deuxième c'est un Vulcain
Le premier est Le Paon du jour
Le troisième je ne sais pas ..
Bonne journée
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you so much Claudine!! You must have these in France, as well? The third has been identified as a "Gatekeeper", or "Hedge Brown" (Pyronia tithonus).

If anyone can identify them then it's Lisl. I especially like the one in the main image with the "eyes" in each corner.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Chris got them correct, first.... Philine, Claudine and of course Lisl confirmed! The one with the "eyes" is called a "Peacock"! Fitting!

Three good pictures Elizabeth, and all identified as well.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Brian! Identified and confirmed! smile
Wow! The top one is unusual to me.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't it gorgeous!
Lovely flutters...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: They are!
Nice shots, Elizabeth!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Tom!
