The rounded corners seem to somehow add to this fine image, Elizabeth...nice choice of frame.

[My personal view is that Heroes wear whatever they happen to have on when they perform their heroic act...dog tags, combat boots, capes, tights, swim wear, flip flops, floral print shirts, three piece business suit, even nothing at all...]
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thanks, Ray! I was just playing around with the edges and thought this worked OK.

(And of course, you are right! There are every day hero's in every day attire... It's just that on this particular day, those military personnel - and their families - who have made the "ultimate sacrifice", so that I might be able to sit here and right this, are foremost in my thoughts. To me, anyone who signs up for the military is a hero - takes more guts than I've got, even if they get assigned to a desk job in Bellemont, Arizona. But those who have died in a war for my freedom to protest that war... that's a whole different type of human.)

Even your drive home was exciting, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Never a dull moment for us! smile
It IS fitting on this Memorial Day, Elizabeth. Thank you for "remembering."
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: I'm glad you think so, Ginnie. It's always difficult to know what to post for this day, isn't it?

This is a wonderful scenery to drive home in. Great sky and I love that there is lots of it...
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: It's like being in a movie! Thank you, Astrid! We do have some gigantic skies - and I often put too much sky in my photo's because I love them so much!!! I'm glad you think this is OK!

A spectacular sight and a destination in its own right. You're right about the heroes. Its a term that often gets used about footballl players - they could not be further from the real meaning of the word.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Absolutely!

I feel the same. Hero's are those in the military, police force, fire lines... little boys who rescue littler boys... people who rescue animals... people who die protecting complete strangers on a train... people who shield other people during any kind of attack... But athletes? While the talent / skill / dedication is admirable - they are making an obscene amount of money to do something with their bodies that they enjoy doing. Yes, they may "sacrifice" for their team, and sometimes they get hurt. But no one's pointing a gun at them... Much different.
This is the sort of drive where you want to be the passenger
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Absolutely - Frank and I take turns when we go through this valley!
What a landscape.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Beyond words...
Very fitting, Elizabeth, and a nice shot too.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you very much, Mary!

I love especially this image with so much sky!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Philine! I know I tend to include too much sky in some of my photo's - but in this case I thought it enhanced the image - I'm glad you agree!
We'd have to keep stopping so Maureen, our driver these days, could see the same as I am.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: smile I know!!!
