a collection of swirling, vibrant colours, Elizabeth. when i hear of this event, i am typically reminded of the skull painted faces from Mexico.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Yes - it's a wonderful thing! The celebration was apparently originated by the Aztecs 3000 years ago!

These latest shots are just tack sharp. Great idea to move to shutter priority. Wonderful captures. Feeling the wind!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Bonnie! I enjoy playing around with shutter speeds with action stuff... I have some that were slow speed and show a beautiful, soft blur of color! smile

These are such wonderful shots. In the middle one there is just that slight movement. Great. The bottom picture is great timing!! Very colourful!
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Astrid! I just love all the colors - and the way they move the skirts for optimum color flash... the bottom one reminded me of a flamingo.... just one foot and lots of pink! smile

She is working up to show off like a peacock fanning it's tail feathers. Great little series. Remembering the dead with verve.
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Isn't that great!!! Thank you, Louis - I think it's a wonderful thing! smile
How can you say NO to that kind of death, Elizabeth!

Some more fine action here, Elizabeth. You caught the third one beautifully. Does this take place in Flagstaff?
Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you, Lisl!!
We do have a celebration in Flagstaff... but this one was in Sedona. The South West states (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, California...) have very large Mexican populations - after all - we use to BE Mexico! So these traditions run strongly through our communities!

I love the swirls of the skirts especially in the bottom image. The colours make me think of Mexico for some unknown reason.

Elizabeth Croston Buckalew: Thank you very much, Frank... They are - it's the background that can be a problem - as you well know!
The beautidul ribbon dress is shown to it's best here.
